Respite Care Worker

About the Role

Direct Care Workers rendering respite services shall:
- Collaborate with the participant's family, providers of other waiver services, and other professionals working with the participant in the home or other community settings, including the schools.
- Work under the ongoing supervision of a qualified professional employee of the provider
- Are approved by the provider as qualified to meet the participant's needs        
- Are approved by the participant's parents
- Submit and be cleared on a criminal history background investigation conducted by CJIS

Requirements

Direct Care Workers rendering respite services must:

  • Have at least a high school degree or GED, including equivalency review by an accredited agency for credentials obtained outside of the United States, before rendering services to any Autism Waiver participant;

  • Have received adequate and appropriate training, within 60 days of employment and annually thereafter, pertaining to care for children with autism spectrum disorder

  • Have volunteer or employment experience working with children with autism spectrum disorder or other developmental disabilities as a service provider or as a family member for a minimum of 100 hours
